Howdee all,
This was our last day in Yellowstone….we went on another drive…with Sicksta Charlene and her hubby Tom. Back to Yellowstone lake to look for Mushrooms and take photos.
I was intrigued by this green Lichen. The color was a bright limey green..the same color as the distant green island.
It was really quite beautiful.
I am still trying to find out what kind it is…any ideas?
We did several walks this day..The weather to our south looked foreboding..and seemed headed in our direction….We put on our rain jackets in anticipation. Dark clouds in the south…. We happened upon Blue Grouse…again…(ok guys..is it Blue Grouse?) We passed the meadows and are now in the burn area…
Burned Trees being replaced…by newLooks like the skies may be clearing……
Some blue amongst the dark sky,,,a few raindrops fall… and as we leave the Burned woods area and head back into the meadow…
We are greeted by clearing skies….
Another rain storm….that passed us by .. Jeff and I are still in Eugene, Oregon…will go to the coast as soon as work is finished on Homey….Sometime next week we are hoping…
I have already picked some Chanterelles and Lobster mushrooms..the ground was a bit dry when we picked…but today's rain and some later this week should make picking..awesome!
It has been over 30 years since I have been to Yellowstone and it looks as beautiful as I remember!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photographs of the lichens, landscape and Blue Grouse!
How were the mushrooms? Sounds yummy!
Cool pictures sicksta! I should be putting my Mount ST Helens Blog up soon..
ReplyDeleteDawn, yes I agree that your grouse picture is of what used to be called a Blue Grouse. In 2006 the Blue Grouse species was split into Dusky Grouse and Slaty Grouse. Your picture appears to be of a Ducky Grouse. Your pictures are awesome.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to go to Yellowstone! Loved these photos - the sky seemed endless in them!

ReplyDeleteMany years ago, we went to Yellowstone a year after the big fires. The trees were completely black but the ground was covered with wildflowers--fireweed mostly but also other annuals. It was breathtaking. Yellowstone is an amazing national park.
ReplyDeleteLove the cloud pictures and the grouse with her babies.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the walk, Dawn. We have never been to Yellowstone, but it goes on my "must do" list, thanks to you. Cheryl
ReplyDeleteCouldn't quite figure out the grass on that dead tree! But it sure looked beautiful like a soft carpet! Sky looks stunning in last two pictures! Very nicely shot!
ReplyDeleteI've posted a new picture of which I can't figure out the title... thought, may be I should take help of my friends... do check it out... - Pixellicious Photos
I've been enjoying your Yellowstone photos. I haven't been there since I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteThe lichen looks like wolf lichen. The natives here used it for a yellow dye.
