I wasn’t going to walk the beach on our last morning in Sanibel
It was a very cold morning in the mid 30s.
But….
I just couldn’t leave without one more walk.
So, I bundled up and headed to the beach while Jeff stayed in
to do some paper work.
I biked out to the beach, locked up my bike and headed east.
It was low tide..
I had to take many of the photos while facing west because of the sun..
On the first part of my journey there were many sea urchin.
I put as many back in the water as I could.
I found a hollowed out sea urchin I could take home!
Royal tern..
Tiny little Millipede starfish..
On this stretch of the beach there were many Millipede starfish..
I threw as many back into the water as I could..
Oh…Wow!
Look at this area
Jackpot..
The area was about six feet wide and one hundred feet long at least.
There were hundreds of these shells with what I was told was a
type of coral on it.
This particular shell was the only kind that had this pink coral growing on it.
After picking thru the shells for a few nice finds I traveled east a bit further..
I believe this is a Serpent or Brittle starfish
More Sea Urchin
I headed west again passing the awesome shelling area again.
About four or five inches of shells..
I retraced my steps heading west..
Sea pork
Sea Cucumber
A piece of coral that I kept..
Some type of beautiful red coral.
I pass the Terns again..
Black-belled Plover
Another Red Coral
Some kind of jelly
Shells and surf....
Long Spined sea urchin
Another coral
I love these little scenes on the beach…Its all so beautiful.
I keep heading west past where I came in..
I found this cool wooden bird..
A Lesser Black-backed Gull with a crab for breakfast..
A live shell…there were many of these Scallops in this section of the beach..
I threw some of these back in the water…
I start to see Conch shells in the section….most of them Live.
more sea urchin to throw back..
I reach another area rich with shells
Lightning Whelk egg casing..
This Millipede starfish dried up in this arched shape..
I had a grand time and before I knew it …it was well past one o'clock.
I heart beach walking Sanibel!
Time to get back…clean the shells…
And get ready to leave the area…
After a few days in Fort Myers we will head south to the Everglades!
Stay tuned!
Most likely we wont have internet so we will drive
to a nearby coffee shop to post updates.
See you there!
I've never seen so many shells in my life! Fascinating! I didn't know they washed up on the beach in such numbers.
ReplyDeleteWe are looking forward to visiting Florida again next fall and winter...
ReplyDeleteAwesome collection of sea shells and sea critters.. Love the coral..have fun in the Everglades..
ReplyDeleteI love all your shells - what a great spot! And the coral, and starfish, etc. Wow! I would have come home with bags full. I like the way you've spread them all out with like shells together. Your "still life" photos are true, natural still life arrangements. Very nice! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, those piles of shells! They brought back memories ...
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid, far to the north, I'd find the occasional pile like this (long ago, while the seas were still clean) and plunk myself down right there to sort through them, picking up each one, and putting it back. Hours later, I would leave with one or two, or maybe none, in my pocket.
Thanks everyone for your wonderful comments....
ReplyDeleteI didn't think I was getting comments on my blog...I forgot that I turned on comment moderation because I was getting spam comments....but because of that I was not being notified of comments unless I went directly to my blog.
So I turned off the moderation and hope that works...
Sorry..
