The temp has changed the last few days..
When we first arrived the temp was in the 70s…
Yesterday it was windy and chilly on the beach.
It felt like it was in the 50s and windy.
Jeff and I happened upon this Millipede Starfish on our walk. It was a first for us.
This was us…today
Bundled up..
We went out to breakfast with our kind landlords.. Ken and Linda..their favorite the Island Cow..always fun and good food.
After breakfast we birded a few small retention ponds in hopes of seeing a Great White Heron that has been seen there.
We didn’t see the Heron but we did see other birds and many Wood Stork.
This looks like a first year..still sporting some feathers on its head…
This Wood Stork has a nice fish for lunch..
Brown Pelican
Anhinga..
Three silly White Ibis.
Cattle Egret
Sparkly…
A Preening Great Blue Heron
We left the ponds and headed to do a short birding trip to Ding Darling with a few target birds in mind.
This Eastern Screech-Owl was on the top of my list..
Adorable isn't it?
We then looked at a few other areas..
We finished at Shell mound looking for the White-crowned Pigeon so that I could get a photo…This was a life bird I saw several days before but sadly I didn’t get any photos ..and our third attempt didn’t yield the bird.
Luckily we saw this Pileated woodpecker doing its thing on Shell mound trail
Our next and last stop for the day was a trip to the beach..
We drove to the end of Sanibel and parked at the lot and headed east.
Jeff finding some treasures.
A Pen shell heart
A live Olive…
Its body out of the shell in this photo…
Some sort of sponge..
I think this is a horse conch..
The only sea urchin seen on our trip..
We leave Sanibel tomorrow..Not nearly enough time here..
but we take what we get and Its been wonderful!
I heart Sanibel..
Loved it! A wonderful 5-minute respite from the cold here in Michigan (I'm a slow reader...). :)
