Last day~Hunting Island~morning walk

We delayed leaving Hunting Island for a day..

It was supposed to rain all morning and much of the day.

Jeff didn’t want to drive our newly washed Homey to Atlanta in the rain.

Our campsite was booked..so we had to move Homey.

Our other site 189 was nice, wooded and private..

The rain stopped shortly after noon..

It was lovely and warm..

The beach was full of activity..

Sunday on the beach..

I was on a shark teeth jaunt..

Slowly saying goodbye to Hunting Island beach..

We were here over six years ago…the changes to the beach were amazing.

I hope its not as long before we come back for another stay..

I wonder what changes will happen while we are away..

How much more beach will be taken away and reformed in another area.

I have a thang for Laughing Gulls..

It was a warm afternoon..

Brave young swimmers..

Burrrr… ..

  I did take off my shoes, rolled up my cords and walked thru the water..

warm and cleansing…

What a nice way to end my stay..

Jeff was in Homey doing taxes..

while I worked hard on the beach…

looking down for shark teeth..

I had to look up now and then to make sure I didn’t trip over the rusty groins..

Oh look..what do we have here..

Its not a sharks tooth..

It’s a tiny heart..

I did find a few shark teeth on this walk..

No photos here of them..I am going to organize my collection..

Try and ID them and then show you what I ended up with.

I loved seeing people out enjoying the warm afternoon.

Chilly, windy beachcombing …

 

The last few days have been chilly with rain on and off during the day..

Unseasonably chilly weather for this area in South Carolina.

 

We had to bundle up ..

Down coat, hat, gloves..

When we did we were warm and ready to..

Follow the foam…

 

Out to the north end of the island..

The flock of Red Knot are still present the past three evenings..

feeding at the edge of the surf..

The ever present Sanderlings..

darting around…catching dinner..

I went out into the wind and chill last night on my own..

Jeff stayed back at camp to catch a few Zzs..

I had a mission..

Not just to look at the birds..

Or the incoming tide..

Which is pretty incredible by the way…

The beach becomes much smaller at high tide here..

My mission is to search for shark teeth..

My new obsession..

I discovered that high tide is not such a great time to hunt for shark teeth.

Most of the areas I search were covered with water..

I had much better luck at low or incoming high…

I did see a few stranded jellies..

A bright pink ocean plant..

Here are a few teeth I found a few days ago..

I look for the Y shape..

This is a rather nice tooth..

I found two this same shape..

Luckily I found one special tooth before peak high tide yesterday..

I have not yet Identified the teeth I have collected, though I suspect I have a few Sand tiger shark teeth.

I think the one below looks like an Extinct White shark tooth..

I didn’t have much luck after finding the above tooth..

The tide pretty much covered most of the beach..

We extended our stay here by one day..

I will continue my search today..in between raindrops....

Beach, Knots and Setting Sun…

Just two days left at

Hunting Island State Park..

Oh..my ..

Say it isn't so…

It was a windy and chilly morning..

We found a jellyfish washed up on the shore…..

I was told this is a Four handed Box Jelly

Cool..

The ranger said this was a cannonball jelly not fully formed..

Sea pork..

Because of the wind..

the area we normally bird had just a few birds scattered about..

It was too windy and cold for birds and it was too windy and cold for us..

We left the beach and went for a drive …

We came back later that evening ..

The wind had died down..

There was a huge flock of Red Knot..

We watched them forage..

Dunlin..

I looked for shark teeth as Jeff birded..

The sun was setting..

The view looking south was gorgeous..

A Bird like cloud..
