Here we are..

Howdee all,

Here we are..snug as a bug

Sickstas side yard.

Yes that bedroom window nearly touches the tree…better to see the Flying squirrels at night.

I set up my bird feeders and I am ready to see what they might bring.

Homey dells

This evening Jeff said to come out and look at the Oak trees being lit up by the sun..

Cool!

We are here in NC until sometime in January, when we continue to head south and west.

Dead Presidents in Hollywood

Howdee all,

While in Richmond we were told we should got to Hollywood Cemetery.

So we went..

Looking for Dead Presidents..

Hollywood Cemetery is a large, sprawling cemetery located at 412 South Cherry Street in Richmond, Virginia. Characterized by rolling hills and winding paths overlooking the James River, it is the resting place of two United States Presidents, James Monroe and John Tyler, as well as the only Confederate States President, Jefferson Davis. It is also the resting place of 25 Confederate generals, more than any other cemetery in the country.

Included are George Pickett and J.E.B. Stuart.

It was a very gray and chilly day.

James Monroe (April 28, 1758 – July 4, 1831) was the fifth President of the United States (1817–1825). Monroe was the last president who was a Founding Father of the United States, the third of them to die on Independence Day, and the last president from the Virginia dynasty and the Republican Generation.[1]

John Tyler (29 March 1790 – 18 January 1862) was the tenth President of the United States (1841–1845), after being the tenth Vice President of the United States (1841). A native of Virginia, Tyler served as a state legislator, governor, U.S. representative, and U.S. senator before being elected Vice President in 1840. He was the first to succeed to the office of President on the death of the incumbent, succeeding William Henry Harrison.

Richmond_067We didn’t have our bins..but saw and heard quite a few birds.

Any guess as to who's nest this is?

See you there!

Waiting in Richmond

Howdee all,

We dropped Homey off his morning for an oil change and general maintenance. We entered Starbucks in the GPS and headed toward downtown Richmond, VA. We ended up at a small Starbucks in Carytown.
A birder Facebook friend saw that we were just 20 minutes from her home so she and her daughter joined us for some chatting and coffee. We had a lovey nice visit.

Jeff and I had a little time left to explore before picking up Homey..so we headed out to see some Dead Presidents.
Stay tuned...

On the Road Again

Howdee all,

We have finally left New England for our journey south. We were delayed by Hurricane Sandy and lack of fuel in New Jersey. We know we outstayed our time when our black water tank was filled to the brim..yuck..I welcome the day when we can use that as fuel...ha ha

Anyway...we just fueled up in New Jersey without a hitch.
Our destination tonight is a service center in Richmond, VA. Tomorrow, Homey will have it's oil changed. We then continue our journey for our annual stop at my Sickstas home.

Beached Babies ~Hurricane Sandy

Howdee all,

Yesterday Jeff and I walked around Bluff Point. Our first walk there since the hurricane.

We started our walk thru the wooded area..other than a few trees downed everything looked ok.

Do you see the face below?

Bluff Point_021We walked the long strip of beach and noticed that the strip was wider.

Allot of sand was deposited.

Bluff Point_029There were Ring-billed and Herring Gulls, but not much else birdy on the beach.

Bluff Point_041We searched the debris that was churned up and brought in by the storm.

We found a beached boat..

What we saw next alarmed us!

Bluff Point_042Poor thing must have been in the ocean for a while. I wonder why its body is a mess and its face and hair untouched.

We will leave here as soon as we know gas will be available when we travel through New Jersey. I hope it will be soon!
