San Rafael Grasslands

Well, here we are…in Patagonia, AZ. We have been here for over a week now and are having a super time! I have about four blog posts waiting for me to work on them so that They can be published.

Its just that Jeff and I are out all day and when we get back to Homey..I feel like kicking back and watching a movie or a show on TV.

Today we were back early enough that I have some energy left..sooo

 

I will start with our trip yesterday to one of my favorite magical places to visit in the area…

San Rafael Grasslands

Grass and more grass in a huge valley…

Surrounded by distant mountains..

A few trees speckled in..

We visited the grasslands in the evening..

Long shadow of me..

We also came to look for birds..

Sparrows, Horned Lark, Meadowlark, Northern Harriers and whatever else might show itself.

Distant cattle..

My favorite mountain in the area..

The sun starts to become low in the sky..

We hope for a good sunset..

Some pale pinks..

Magic in grass, sky and mountains..

I ♥♥♥♥♥ this place!

More pinks In the East..

In the west it’s a pale sunset…not what we hoped for but beautiful non the less..

We leave and look for Short eared owls as we drive out of the grasslands.

We didn’t see any this visit…

San Rafael Grasslands, AZ

Howdee all,

Today we took a drive to the San Rafael Grasslands..

one of my favorite places for scenic beauty.

It was around 9am when we set out to the grasslands…see the sun still shining brightly in the east.

We were on a Sunday drive..looking for birds

  It was very windy…car door hard to open in the wind.

   We saw flocks of Horned Lark

   Meadowlarks..

I took no bird photos..

for one thing..they were too far away for my point and shoot.

and..it was too windy out

So..I stayed in the car…and enjoyed the scenery..

   popping out occasionally to take a photo

I adore the grasslands

We saw a Northern Harrier enjoying the wind

we saw Vesper sparrows perched on the fence then struggling against the wind when flying

A few birds…

and mostly…just wonderful views..

Evening in the San Rafael Grasslands

Howdy,

Haven't blogged for a while, and its not because we haven't been doing anything....most days we go birding somewhere around the Patagonia area. Either a drive to look at birds or a walk to see them.
We are still traveling with Dick and Judi May, and recently Patti and Geno Masuda joined us here. It was Patti and Geno who originally introduced us to this area.

It is a wonderful area, lots of birding here, and never enough time to see it all. We have discovered a few new areas on this trip...but i am sure there are plenty others waiting to be discovered....oh well...next time.

We leave here on Tuesday after our mail arrives.

I have taken lots of other video...but for whatever reason....I have not added it to the blog....maybe sometime later or maybe never....

I do have this one video that was taken last night in the San Rafael Grasslands.....we went for the sunset with Geno and Patti....

San Rafael Grasslands, Arizona.. Skywatch Friday

This Skywatch Posts comes from my Archives..two years ago.before I was doing Skywatch posts.

One of my favorite places to watch the sun setting.

Large open expanse.

We are headed west soon..and plan on being in Arizona for part of the winter. We will stay in Patagonia, very close to these grasslands

I cant wait!
