A day drive in the Tetons

Howdee all,

September 13th, Jeff, Sicksta Charlene, her husband Tom and I went for a drive in the Tetons.

First stop a small pond. Lots of swallows flying around the pond and stopping to rest on the log fence.

Grasses and ducks …behind the log fence..

The day began clear with a thin blankets of clouds…

and patches of blue sky

in this photo below you can see that the clouds are thicker above us.  A common bird in the area.

Magpie As we drove the Tetons came into view

so majestic..Check out this interesting cloud layer..Does the Top of this Teton help make this cloud angle? …

   We stopped at the new visitor centre..Very nice designFrom inside ..large windows give you the large Teton views And a very nice interpretive center and gift shop inside

From the outside of the visitor Center…i get carried awayAgain…

I seem to do that allot…too many photos..I then change to wide angle shots

This one below I feature the sky

And then closer wide angle shots..

and closer

I switch to 4.3 aspect Ratio…and zoom in.. Back to the wide angle…another close up..

  A different angle…trying to capture the light hitting the mountains…And then I zoom in to try and capture the light shining on the snow …       As we leave….I take one last shot from the visitor center…with Trees in the foreground. We continue our drive…the cloud blanket becomes thicker…..

The blanket of clouds thicken even more and starts to cover the remaining blue….. Leaving a think Blanket of white above the mountains… When I see this photo below..

i think it looks like a poster backdrop in front of the cars Views of the Tetons from Jenny Lake Ok…so which Teton photo Do you like?…

Some are so very similar…like these two..one with more clouds (above) the other(below) with more trees..

I probably should have tried this particular shot in 4.3, just to see how it would like with allot more sky.

Some of these photos are very similar…yet different..Do you like wide angle shots…or the 4.3 ratio? Do you like more sky or more foreground?

I tend to favor sky…..but still playing around with this new point and shoot…

I am at the coast in Florence, Oregon, taking care of a friends home. Jeff went back to Junction City where Homey is and will oversee the tile work.,,and other renovations.

I can wait to see the final product!

Phelps Lake, The Grand Tetons

Howdee all,

This day we drive to Phelps lake trailhead..

on the way passing Jenny Lake and views of the Tetons

Stopping on the way to take photos

Of these beautiful rocky topped mountains Beautiful views from just about every vantage point…

We pass a few farms…on our way to the trailhead…what an awesome backdrop to any home or farm! Phelps Lake trail

1.2-mile meander from the Death Canyon trailhead through dense pine and aspen forest leads to a ridgetop 700-feet above Phelps Lake. We continued down to the lake another half mile.

A round three and a half mile round trip, fairly easy hike.

We arrive at the trailhead and are are told there are moose ahead.

We spot a mom and her babe…hidden in the scrub..

The weather starts to change..becomes a bit darker…storm clouds head our way

The view of the lake below  Hail starts to fall…

See the hail on the log?  We take cover and watch the hail storm.

I was so excited and jumped around and screeched like a little kid…my sicksta, husband, and brother in law will vouch for that…

What a blast..in a beautiful place with little white pellets making music on my rain gear and the ground..

Lovely…a grand time!

We stop for another view Before heading down to the lake.Phelps Lake Mica coats the leaves under the water…making them look silver..The hike back..i observe colors..And flowers gone by….Dried seed heads now….but just as beautifulAs the flowers were………And the flowers that are still blooming…

Are full of activity… Bugs getting nectar..pollen..

I wonder what these bees are collecting in this seed head.

Any Ideas?

another nice hike in the Tetons…and the drive home was just as lovely…. As the drive to the hike…

Nature notes & Watery Wednesday…….. Water droplet study

Howdee all,

While in the Tetons….

I started using my macro feature on my tiny point and shoot Panasonic Lumix.

I had fun shooting water droplets.

   Trying to capture..the color beneath the droplet as it magnifies the leaf.

   Sometimes the droplets looked like crystals

I looked for fat..round droplets

    And took different angles

of these beautiful orbs..

And close ups…

i wondered if it was possible to capture a landscape in a droplet..

or maybe my own photo…but i wasn't able to do it..

any ideas on how to do that?
