Walk along the Yellowstone

Here we are…

How do you like our view?

We are parked beside my Sisters home in Livingston, Montana.

There we are behind the tree to the left of the house..

Turn around and go over the bridge..

Its evening now and we are going for a walk along the Yellowstone river.

Its a short walk over the bridge and through the park.

Nice Orange and reds in the park.

 

This is the path that borders the Yellowstone river on the other side of the park.

I took many of these photos with my ipod using my HDR app.

Not the best quality…though, it does a nice job capturing the evening light when the foreground is dark.

Gold is the primary fall color here in Montana.

Gold borders the path..

Gold glows when the sun hits it..

We didn't go further than this..

This was a short walk..

We just needed to stretch our legs..

and exercise my nephews two dogs..

Update~

Jeff and I left Montana early this morning to avoid the snow storm.

We went over all the passes west on i-90 ..no snow.

We are almost to our evening destination in Washington.

Hogback Ridge

Two days ago we took a drive into Paradise Valley for a short hike up a portion of Hogback Ridge.

Views views views…can not avoid having views here..

Absaroka Range

The trail was mostly a up up and more up.

We were hiking west..

I turn behind me to the east for more mountain views..

This is a two pole hike…

Hiking poles that is..

Steep, rocky sections.

I stopped to take a panorama of the mountain range.

I pass many dried out alpine flowers..

More up..

We had a late start,

so…

we stop to take in the scene, soak up the sun and catch our breath before heading back down.

Oh look..

Must be little beauties when in bloom..

We start to loose sun..

It gets a bit chilly..

On the way down..in the round fields below…

We hear and see hundreds of Sandhill Crane

They must be on their way south to Arizona..

We will be in Arizona in January…

Hope to see them again.

Five days to Livingston

It was a crazy wild five day drive from Connecticut to Livingston, Montana.

A few 10 to 12 hours of driving.

Many times waking up with the moon.

This drive by moon shot looks like a spooky pumpkin.

Early morning drives  are accompanied by some fog.

Then clearing and lovely clouds..

Beautiful countryside..

I enjoyed our drive on I-90…big open spaces and no traffic what-so-ever..

and scenes like this..

All these photos were taken from my passenger seat.

No time to stop and take photos when the driver has a destination in mind.

We make it to western South Dakota and start to see remnants of the huge early snowstorm they had several weeks ago.

We saw piles of dead cattle..

I was only able to get a shot of these two.

Rancher Marvin Jobgen has weathered many storms in his 40 years in business, but he's never lost as many cattle as he did during the record-setting winter storm Atlas. A third of his cows, about 100, and 15 percent of his calves died. Two weeks after the October 4 blizzard, livestock producers in western South Dakota are still counting their losses and burying would-be profits in bone pits.

The storm slammed into the region after days with temperatures in the 70s and 80s, catching producers and cattle unprepared. State veterinarian Dustin Oedekoven says so far 7,500 cattle have been reported dead, but that number will grow because right now "reporting isn't high on everybody's mind."

And then here we are..

We stop at the visitor center..

Before moving on..

That evening  we park  and spend the night at a Walmart in Billings,Montana.

In the morning we have a two hour drive to my Sisters home in

Livingston, Montana.

The views are like paintings..

We know we are getting close when we see the mountains..
