Chatham~Beachy bits and pieces

I am not one that can sit on the beach for long periods of time..…

I prefer to walk and see what I can see.

Like..

Angelic seaweed..

Birds on a wire..

These happen to be mostly Tree Swallows staging during migration to their southern home.

Gulls are always on the beach it seems..

This particular day we witnessed a Gull stealing a sandwich out of someone's hand.

Wish I had that on camera!

While my Brother and Sister-in Law were clamming..

I took a stroll..

Jeff and I had a great time on Cape Cod with his family.

We are now in CT spending time with my side of the family..

Until

We head west..

Oregon bound…

We visit several times while on Cape Cod.

Plenty of old Cape Cod character.

On our last visit before leaving the cape, we were told by another patron that some of the locals are trying to close the marina and restaurant.
I certainly hope this doesn't happen.
According to this article, it looks like the locals have issues with the increased traffic because of the marina it is associated with.

I tend to stick to my favorite...

Cape Cod Bliss...

South beach birding

This past Monday Jeff and I joined a Wellfleet Audubon trip to South Beach led by Ellison Orcutt.

A short boat ride is the only way to access this area.

Just last year we were able to hike here from Lighthouse Beach.

A long six mile walk one way..

This year its much different..a few storms have made a cut about half way thru the long sandy peninsula..making it impossible to walk the distance.

We scanned the area where we first arrived..

Lots of terns and peeps.

We walked south..

More peeps..

Mostly Semipalmated Plover

While searching thru this area of gulls, terns and shorebirds…

A birder spotted a gull that needed a closer look..

My 20x zoom couldn't reach it..

So Jeff tried digiscoping a few..

This boat is tagging sharks..

During the next month, they hope to capture 20 white sharks and attach technology that will make it possible for anyone to track the surface activity of each fish on the team’s publicly accessible website.

Mostly Semipalmated Plover

We *tern* around and

2400 Common Tern (Common)
1 Forster's Tern

We need to leave..

But not until we pish out a Saltmarsh Sparrow..

Then…Sadly

The boat awaits..
