  1. Don't feed the wildlife people food! Heck, we probably shouldn't be eating that junk food either.

  2. i'd definitely say no to chips and bread and anything with simple carbs. We shouldn't be eating them either but its definitely not part of the gulls natural diet. If you MUST feed them...left over chicken or something protein. Or perhaps leftover fruits (although I don't know if they favor them much). But in general, I just admire the gulls and I don't toss them scraps.

  3. When I was a kid I fed them ~ then I grew up and realized how wrong it is to give any bird or animal human food... especially junk!

  5. Hi Dawn, here in the UK we have big broblems with gulls, particularly at seaside towns, as they have started attacking people to get at the food they are eating, this is because people have fed them in the past. Now in some areas there are signs saying don't feed the gulls, and penalties for doing so.
Good pics of the Laughing Gulls,
    All the best Gordon.

  6. I had to chuckle at the gull eating the chip.

Feeding gulls? Well, living in a fishing/tourist town, I have to say, I'm fully against it. Gulls pick up nasty habits and then cross the line. When I see tourist feeding gulls, it makes me cringe. Fortunately in Gloucester, the gulls are not too aggressive, but I’ve been in areas where they hop onto tables at restaurants, harass beach goers and generally be a pain in the butt. My dad had a burger swiped out of his hand at a beach once.

Oh well, as I said last Thursday, gulls will be gulls.

As far as the occasional chip or French fry goes, I don’t think it will hurt them too much. I’ve seen gulls eat some rather nasty stuff in the wild.

  7. Don't even get me started. Makes me crazy seeing people feeding the gulls on the beach. There are signs everywhere saying it is illegal but people still do it. Then 50 gulls show up and start attacking them and it's not fun anymore. Then the people start throwing sand at the gulls to try and get them to leave.

  9. It's fun to feed birds and other waterfowl bread and other food. Now I know that it is unhealthy to the birds. They may become dependent on humans. If they do, they may injure themselves. It's fun, but bad for everyone. I think Rhode Island has a law that it is banded to feed waterfowl.
